How Club Verdicts are made
Every book on this site is appraised the same way:
One rubric, every book
Plot & pacing, sleuth charm, puzzle fairness, cosiness — scored 1 to 5. Plus the cosy contract: violence, romance and language on a three-dot scale, so you know exactly what you're pouring tea for.
What a verdict is built from
- Reader consensus: we analyse hundreds of reader reviews per book across platforms and identify the patterns — what readers consistently love, and where they consistently hesitate. We never reproduce anyone's review text; we report the shape of the consensus.
- The opening chapters: read directly, for prose, voice and pace.
- The record: series context, setting, awards, publication history.
What a verdict is not
We don't claim to have read every page of every book, and we never write as if we had. When a verdict draws on a full read, it says so.
Independence
Affiliate links fund the site; they never influence scores. If a book has any connection to the Club or its founder, that connection is disclosed on the verdict itself, in plain sight.
